The global ecological crisis now affects all societies, territories and activities, criss-crossing its economic and social consequences. But this crisis is also a cultural one. Therefore, the solutions to it can not only be political and technical. Culture can be a major player. Every year the COAL Prize highlights ten projects by artists working on environmental issues in the field of visual arts. Together they are participating in building a new collective narrative, that is optimistic and essential for everyone to find the motivation to implement the necessary changes towards a more sustainable world. BIOESTETICA Open Call for Artistic Residencies | Deadline 03/04/2017

The Zaragoza City of Knowledge Foundation offers a total of 3 on-site residencies lasting for a maximum of two months that will take place between the months of May, June and July 2017 at Etopia, Centre for Art and Technology, of Zaragoza (Spain). Co-financed by the EU Creative Europe programme and coordinated by Ars Electronica, the project seeks to promote and exchange creative experiences that bring together both art and science. Artists and creators are invited to submit proposals that reflect on the concept of post-nature from the thematic perspectives of Identity, New Ecologies and Living/Dead Natures. Science, Technology and Arts (=STARTS) form a nexus with an extraordinarily high potential for creative innovation. As a catalyst force that can inspire and trigger innovative processes, artistic pratice can effectively contribute to the development of new products and new economic, social and business models.
