EDITH-RUSS-HAUSS FOR MEDIENKUNST - OLDENBURG

UNTIL 16 MAY 2010

The exhibition Record > Again!, a cooperation with the ZKM | Zentrum für Kunst und Medien, Karlsruhe, the Ludwig Forum Aachen and the Kunsthaus Dresden, forms the second part of the comprehensive project "40JahreVideokunst.de" which started in 2006.

While the first part concentrated on the most important video works during the past fourty years in Germany, the second part was mainly conceived based on the question of restauration and archiving of the material.

Many of the video works of the sixties to the eighties have vanished from public and art historical focus, because the replay of its formats became technically impossible or they needed to be restored.

ZKM | Laboratory for antiquated video systems has the task to find these works, restore and digitalize them. They assembled this display of important works of video art from both parts of Germany among many were thought to be lost.

Therefore the exhibition is able to present some debut performances and many works which had not been shown for years by artists such as JosephM Beuys, Claus Böhmler, Klaus vom Bruch, Holger Czukay, Jörg Herold, Nan Hoover, Wolf Kahlen, Marcel Odenbach, Klaus Rinke, Ulrike Rosenbach, Dieter Roth, Ulrich Rückriem, Reiner Ruthenbeck, Peter Weibel and many more.

They suggest a re-evaluation of the history of video art in Germany.
