We Love Technology,
a showcase event dedicated to the creative use and (mis)use of technology, kicks
off with a series of pre-event workshops in Huddersfield.
With a packed programme led by audio, interactive architecture and games pioneers,
WLT07 offers an antidote to the conventional conference format. Guest speakers
include Sky Ear designer Usman Haque, urban
screens expert Mirjam Struppek, Digital WellBeing
Labs’ Alex Grunsteidl, who will be reviewing
technology for the ideal home, and Bitfall designer Julius
Popp who creates displays from droplets of water.
The evening session includes performances by Tom Betts
and his Gameboy set, Koept’s astounding percussion supremo Jaxson
Payne, plus DJ sets from V3ector and
Huddersfield’s own, Player Please.
WLT is an annual creative technology showcase programmed by Blink, compered
by Matt Locke, Commissioning Editor, Education
New Media at Channel 4, hosted by The Media Centre, and supported by University
of Huddersfield and Screen Yorkshire. It is important to note that WLT07 is
an intimate affair so places are limited.
DIGITAL RESEARCH UNIT WORKSHOPS
2+3+4 / 9+10+11 / 13 JULY 2007
Leading up to WLT07 members of the Digital Research Unit will run a series of
three-day hands-on technology workshops designed to suit people of all ages
and abilities. So if you’ve always tempted to ‘void the warrantee’,
why not let Tile Toy creators Tuomo Tammenpää
and Daniel Blackburn show you how to build
your own electronic instruments; Artist-in-Residence Andy Gracie walk you through
environmental microbiology and digital networks; goto10 help you use sensors,
knobs and switches to generate sound; and gamers Alison Mealey and Tom Betts
teach you how to modifying computer games software. And much more besides.
