Lawrence Abu Hamdan: the political implications of sound and silence

Lawrence Abu Hamdan is an artist, researcher, and private ear born in 1985 in Anman , Jordan and currently based in Beirut. In a few years he has achieved an expanded public due to his artistic and scientific research. He analyzes on the one hand surveillance technologies and forensic listening practices ( within legal hearings ) and on the other hand he focuses on language and phonetic comparisons of legal or political issues

Theaster Gates: How to Build a House Museum

Until October at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto, will be on show Theaster Gates with How to Build a House Museum. An exhibition that traces the memory and the conquests of black people through sounds, dances, videos, paintings and clubbing atmosphere organized in six symbolic house-museums, that lead the viewer into another reality

CTM 2017: Radio Lab Call for Works. Deadline: 28/08/2016

The call is for unusual audio projects that couple the radio medium with the potential of live performance. The call is open to artists in the fields of experimental music, sound art, radio art, new radio drama, and performance. The two commissioned works will premiere at CTM 2017 Festival in Berlin, and then be broadcasted in Deutschlandradio Kultur’s Klangkunst programme.

Allora & Calzadilla: Echo to Artifact

Allora & Calzadilla: Echo to Artifact is the first exhibition in Canada of the work of internationally renowned artists Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla. The artworks are the result of the research trip to Alberta in 2014, and consider the nature of sound, music and voice as a way to animate the natural forms and the man-made artifacts.

Sound Systems

Between June and December 2016 at the TRAFO Center for Contemporary Art in Szczecin, will present a series of installations developed around the theme of sound. The event will be inaugurated with the work The Forty Part Motet by Janet Cardiff and will continue with Sound Systems, a set of site-specific sound works chosen by Marie-Eve Lafontaine.

The psychoacoustic properties of sound: an interview with Jonáš Gruska

Jonáš Gruska is an artist exploring the many facets of sound, he even creates the media through which he records. He studied at The Institute of Sonology in The Hague and at the Music Academy in Krakow. In his sonic work, he focuses on chaotic rhythms and the exploration of psychoacoustic properties of sound and field recording.

Caterina Barbieri: new tactics for electronic mutants

Caterina Barbieri is a young electroacoustic musician and performer, born in Italy in 1990, and now living and working out of her homeland. Caterina’s music stems from a pan-harmonic conception of the sound universe, to which the composer needs to attune to, and then work through subtraction to create her own music

Only Connect / Tectonics Festival

On 20 and 21 May 2016 Oslo will be colored by the sound, seeing the collaboration between the two music festivals Only Connect and Tectonics. Will be performed a series of concerts that include symphonic music, electronics, sound installations and improvisation. Interweaving together different degrees of intensity, frequency and rhythms.
